Engineering Intern

Design For Making builds custom robotic cells and automation for production lines. Interns work in the same Idaho Falls shop as the engineers and machinists — not a separate intern track.
This is hands-on. You will design, fabricate, assemble, and help stand up equipment that has to run.
We use Onshape as our primary mechanical design platform.
You will work on
- Brackets, fixtures, guards, frames, and other parts that go on a cell
- Conveyors, tooling, and material-handling pieces as skill allows
- CAD models and manufacturing drawings in Onshape
- Shop work: fit-up, assembly, and getting a machine ready for test
- Walk-downs with engineers, machinists, and controls
Must have
- Enrolled in mechanical, manufacturing, mechatronics, or a related program — or equivalent shop/CAD experience
- 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion, or Onshape)
- Willingness to work on the floor, not only at a desk
- Clear communication when something is blocked or unsafe
- Designs and parts that can actually be made here
Nice to have
- Mill, lathe, weld, or fab time
- Onshape
- GD&T, prints, or DFMA coursework
- Any exposure to robots, pneumatics, or conveyors
